An impressive fireball crosses the sky over Morocco at 93,000 km/h
A spectacular fireball crossed the Moroccan sky at approximately 93,000 km/h. Filmed by several Spanish observatories, the phenomenon began at an altitude of 95 kilometres before burning out above a Moroccan douar.
The fireball was observed on Sunday night into Monday. The event occurred on September 20 at 10:02 p.m. in Morocco, or September 21 at 12:02 a.m. in Spain, where it was recorded.
According to the analysis published by Meteoroides.net, the phenomenon was caused by a meteoroid, that is, a rocky fragment originating from a comet, which entered Earth’s atmosphere at approximately 93,000 km/h.
Its luminous trajectory began at an altitude of close to 95 kilometres above Imesougouene. The fireball then moved northwest before burning out at an altitude of approximately 31 kilometres, above Douar Timedouane.

The passage was noticed by numerous witnesses, who shared their observations on social media. It was also captured from the astronomical stations of Huelva, La Hita, Calar Alto, Sierra Nevada, La Sagra, Séville and Mazagón.
The Fireball’s Light Transformed into Sound
The images were collected as part of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network. This network of cameras enables scientists to reconstruct the trajectory, speed and origin of rocks entering the atmosphere.
The phenomenon was analysed by astrophysicist José María Madiedo. The SMART project is under his scientific direction, with the collaboration of the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia.
At the beginning of the video, the fireball’s passage is also accompanied by a sound. This is not the noise actually produced in the atmosphere: variations in its luminosity were converted into sounds using a sonification technique for scientific outreach purposes.

The event was recorded in the European network’s database under the code SWEMN20260920_220248. Scientists have not announced the discovery of fragments on the ground. The end of the luminous trail at an altitude of 31 kilometres does not, by itself, make it possible to conclude that a meteorite reached the surface.
