Friday 4 September 2020, by Bladi.net

The funeral of the icon of theater and comedy in Morocco, Abdeljabbar Louzir, took place on Thursday in Marrakech, in an atmosphere tinged with emotion and sadness.

From the many testimonies collected by La Map from the late artist’s friends and relatives, the loss of Abdeljabbar Louzir will create an immense void. Indeed, he was one of the great artists whose name will forever be etched in the history of art and culture in Morocco. For the many admirers of the artist, "We have just lost an iconic figure who, for many years, has greatly marked the artistic scene both nationally and locally, thanks to his seriousness and his committed and high-quality artistic work."

Abdeljebbar Louzir, whose first role dates back to 1951, in the successful play "El Fatmi and Daouia", performed in front of the late King Mohammed V at the Bahia Palace in Marrakech in 1957, will have marked "by his spontaneity and his own style", the artistic scene of the kingdom in general and that of Marrakech in particular. The deceased also seduced by his activism for the independence of the country and his nationalist activities, as well as by his passage in the ranks of the team of the ochre city, the Kawkab Athlétique Club de Marrakech (KACM), underlines the same source.

Abdeljabbar Louzir took his leave on Wednesday after a long battle against illness. The funeral of the artist took place in an atmosphere of great sadness and brought together a huge crowd of friends, political figures and the cultural world. His remains rest in the Bab Doukala cemetery.
