Renowned Moroccan Actor Abdeljabbar Louzir Dies at 88, Leaving Theater World in Mourning

The famous Moroccan actor, Abdeljabbar Louzir died on Wednesday in Marrakech at the age of 88. He had been suffering from diabetes for many years.
In Morocco, the world of theater and comedy is in mourning. "Abdeljabbar Louzir died naturally [Wednesday] evening at the age of 88 in his home in the Daoudiate district of Marrakech," said the deceased’s son, Mr. Ahmed Louzir, to the MAP.
"The body of the deceased, who had recently suffered from health problems caused by diabetes, which made it necessary to transfer him to the hospital, will be buried in the Bab Doukkala cemetery after the Adh-Dhuhr prayer," he added.
Abdeljabbar Louzir was a renowned actor from Marrakech. His first steps on stage date back to 1948. At the time, he had joined the "Al-Atlas" troupe of Moulay Abdelouahed Hassanein, an artistic school of great renown.
The list of theatrical plays performed testifies to the immensity of the actor’s talent. To his credit, more than 80 theatrical plays. He had obtained his first role in 1951. "El Fatmi and Daouia" (1951) was the play performed in front of the late Mohammed V at the Bahia Palace in Marrakech in 1957.
The deceased had also campaigned for the independence of Morocco and carried out nationalist activities. He had been a member of the team of the ochre city, Kawkab Athlétique Club de Marrakech (KACM).
