Iconic Casablanca Café Tafoukt Demolished Following Court-Ordered Liquidation

In compliance with a decision by the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, local authorities in the Hay Hassani area of Casablanca began on Friday the demolition of the famous Tafoukt café, which was under judicial liquidation.
This demolition coincided with the decision of the Casablanca commercial court that ordered the judicial liquidation of Café Tafoukt, pursuant to judgment No. 2023/235 issued on October 9, 2023 in file No. 2023/8304/65. According to a notice of information and judicial liquidation dated April 24, 2025, consulted by Al3omk, "all assets of the ’Glacier’, including tangible and intangible elements, concern the rights of creditors, among which are the National Social Security Fund, the Receiver of Casablanca Hay Hassani, Crédit Immobilier et Hôtelier, as well as about twenty employees who will seek to obtain social judgments in their favor. The sale of the company’s movable assets will contribute to the partial payment of their claims, in accordance with Article 382 of the Labor Code."
The document specifies that "the business assets have been evaluated by an expert, with a view to their public auction for the protection of creditors’ rights". The note also states that in accordance with Article 652 of the Commercial Code, the company had been authorized to continue its activity, and that "if demolition is decided by administrative means, it must be notified to the judicial liquidator so that he can take the necessary legal measures to protect the rights of creditors, primarily the State, and organize the sale of the evaluated movable assets".
The mayor of Casablanca, Nabila Rmili, had discussions with the café owner, in the presence of the president of the Hay Hassani district, to find an alternative solution to this situation. "The president of the municipal council proposed several solutions to the owner of the famous café in the Hay Hassani district to find an amicable resolution," local sources assure, adding that "among the solutions was the granting of a new license to open a café in one of the green spaces." But the café owner "refused the options proposed by the city’s mayor, after deciding to contest the decisions taken and to resort to justice to obtain compensation for the damages suffered."
