Housing assistance: a real success among Moroccans living abroad

Nearly 20% of the potential beneficiaries of the new housing assistance program launched by King Mohammed VI last October are Moroccans residing abroad (MREs).

"The applications filed to benefit from the housing assistance amount to 51,900 as of February 27," said Mustapha Baitas, the minister delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, during a press briefing held after the Council of Government on Thursday, February 29, specifying that 81% of the applications have been registered nationwide and 19% have been filed by Moroccans residing abroad (MREs). 37% of the applications have been filed by women against 63% for men. As for the average age of the applicants, it is 41 years old. 75% of the registered applications concern the purchase of a home priced at less than 300,000 dirhams and only 25% concern the acquisition of a home priced between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams, the minister further specified. By city, Fez leads the cities that have recorded the most applications. It is followed respectively by Meknes, Tangier, Marrakech, Berrechid, Skhirat, Kenitra and Salé.

Launched by King Mohammed VI last October, the new housing assistance program aims to renew the approach to home ownership, by supplementing household purchasing power, through direct financial assistance to buyers. The amount of direct assistance to buyers is set at 100,000 dirhams for the acquisition of a home whose selling price is less than or equal to 300,000 dirhams including tax. The state will cover one-third of the value of the property. As for the acquisition of a home priced between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams including tax, the proposed assistance will be 70,000 dirhams. Only Moroccans residing in Morocco or abroad, who are not homeowners in Morocco and who have never benefited from housing assistance, will be the beneficiaries of the assistance.
