UN Honors Moroccan Peacekeeper Killed in Central African Republic Ambush

A heartfelt tribute was paid by the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) to the two blue helmets, including a Moroccan, killed by the armed rebels of the UPC.
Rachid Lamzaata, Corporal-Chief, and Gabonese Sergeant-Chief Franck Donald Mboundou-Moussanda lost their lives on January 18 in an ambush. Their convoy was attacked by armed group fighters 17 km from Bangassou.
The funeral ceremony, organized according to a military protocol, was attended by the head of MINUSCA and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, and the Chief of Staff of the Central African Republic. The two soldiers were subsequently awarded the Knight Grand Cross medal, the highest distinction in the Central African Republic.
In a previous statement, Mankeur Ndiaye, Head of the Coalition, stressed that the perpetrators of these crimes and their accomplices will be arrested and tried in accordance with the laws on war crimes.
