Historic Palm Trees Felled in Kénitra, Sparking Outrage and Calls for Investigation

The Kénitra Municipal Council has decided to cut down the palm trees on Fantasio Street, located on Lalla Aïcha Avenue. These are in particular 70-year-old palm trees, which are nevertheless considered an integral part of the city’s history.
This decision by the Rabbah council, made up of Pédjistes, has provoked the anger of the inhabitants of Kénitra. They denounced a real massacre, a crime against the environment, against the History and the memory of the city.
The opening of an investigation has moreover been demanded by associations of Kénitra against this environmental crime. They have called on the authorities to put an end to the impunity of the Rabbah Council, which, according to them, is destroying the city.
"As for civil society, it supports that the Municipal Council justified this removal of the palm trees by the threat they represented for the population and passers-by instead of solving the real daily ordeal of the inhabitants, namely the lack of means of transport, the proliferation of casual drivers, the "Khettafas".
