According to the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), the long-awaited closure of the local prison in Oujda was decided due to its dilapidated infrastructure, dating back to 1910.
In a statement, the delegation said it had made this decision in response to the need to preserve the safety of inmates and officials.
Pending the opening of the new local prison in Oujda, whose construction work is nearing completion, the delegation has proceeded to transfer the resident inmates to other nearby penitentiary institutions.
