High-Speed Chase Near Spanish-French Border Ends in Police Car Crash
The Policia nacional chased, near Figueres, on the N2 towards France, a vehicle that had run a red light. The driver, who had just ignored the checkpoint, embarked the police elements in a dangerous chase on the heights of La Jonquera.
The recklessness of this Belgian motorist did not get the better of the police who chased him on a small road between La Jonquera and Agullana, also connecting to France via Maureillas Las-Illas, reports L’indépendant.
Just before Le Perthus, the trafficker made a sudden U-turn in an attempt to lose the police, trying to return to La Jonquera, taking the secondary road leading to Agullana. On this dangerous road climbing towards the border, one of the police vehicles chasing him lost control in a curve and ended up in the ditch.
Shortly afterwards, just before the village, the trafficker in turn "lost control of his vehicle before crashing into an embankment," notes the same source. Like the police, he suffered some injuries and was also taken care of.
After thorough searches of the fugitive’s vehicle, the Policia nacional elements discovered 27 kilos of Moroccan cannabis, destined for potential customers in Belgium.
