Moroccan Man Fined €200,000 for Smuggling 58 Kilos of Hashish in Spain

Arrested in January by the Spanish Civil Guard for transporting 58 kilos of hashish in his vehicle, a Moroccan man saw his sentence reduced by six months by the prosecutor. However, the defendant is required to pay a fine of 200,000 euros.
Last Wednesday, before the 2nd Correctional Court of Madrid, the defendant "admitted the facts and acknowledged his guilt of a crime against public health," reports latribunadealbacete.es.
The Moroccan was traveling in his vehicle in the afternoon of January 29, 2019, in the municipality of Villarrobledo, when Civil Guard agents stopped him during a routine check, reports the Spanish media. After the searches, they found "two raffia bags with 120 packages containing a total of 58.2 kilos of cannabis resin".
While he had tried to flee at the time, the driver was prevented by a strong barrier deployed on the highway. His sentence was reduced by six months, while the economic sanction of 200,000 euros imposed on him is maintained, the same source indicated.
