Moroccan Police Seize 650kg of Cannabis in High-Stakes Agadir Drug Bust

A drug trafficking operation was thwarted on Saturday, December 14 in Agadir, resulting in the seizure of 650 kg of cannabis resin (chira).
Thanks to the collaboration between the elements of the judicial police and the Regional Intervention Brigade (BRI) of Agadir, the utility vehicle loaded with drugs was intercepted, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). According to the same source, the driver who refused to comply crossed the security barrier, endangering the lives of the police officers.
According to the DGSN, the other passengers of the vehicle opened fire, using a hunting rifle, in the direction of a police car that swerved off the road. Two police officers were injured during the operation.
The BRI elements were thus forced to use their service weapon by firing warning shots. This made it possible to intercept the vehicle and seize the drugs, a hunting rifle and 14 cartridges, cocaine capsules, a knife and false license plates, it is indicated.
At the end of the operation, a judicial investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to arrest all the people involved in this case, after the identification of two individuals who were on board the vehicle. These two accused persons identified are repeat offenders wanted nationally for their alleged involvement in cases related to drug and psychotropic trafficking, the DGSN specifies.
