Hervé Renard Emerges as Top Contender for French Women’s National Team Coach

Among the profiles being studied within the French Football Federation (FFF) to replace Corinne Diacre as head coach of the Bleues, there is that of the former coach of the Atlas Lions, Hervé Renard. The current coach of Saudi Arabia seems to be a serious candidate for the position.
Before the name of the French coach began to circulate, the FFF had already received the files of Sonia Bompastor, Sandrine Soubeyrand, Patrice Lair and Gérard Prêcheur. According to RMC Sport, even if Hervé Renard, the former coach of Morocco (2016 to 2019) is the only one not to be a specialist in women’s football, this could be an advantage for him.
His international experience makes him a serious candidate. He has won the Africa Cup of Nations twice with Zambia in 2012 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2015. He is used to major international competitions and has to his credit a memorable victory against Lionel Messi’s Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar. But in addition to his experiences, Hervé Renard is respected and appreciated for "his managerial skills, his leadership and his ability to collaborate with institutions." These are all qualities that interest the French Football Federation, which must meet on Thursday and decide on the future of Corinne Diacre, who is the subject of a revolt within the women’s national football team.
If the choice falls on Hervé Renard, his challenge will be to restore confidence to Wendie Renard and her teammates in order to get them ready for the World Cup starting this summer in Australia and New Zealand. "For the past fourteen months, we have been working hard at the FFF to give ourselves the means to be - in the image of what the federation is doing with the men - at the highest level and world champions," Jean-Michel Aulas said on Monday on the sidelines of a workshop on women’s sport.
