Hakimi’s Ballon d’Or Dream Shattered: PSG Star Falls Short Despite Champions League Triumph

The details of the votes for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, won by French striker Ousmane Dembélé, were revealed on Friday by the magazine France Football. The Moroccan defender of PSG Achraf Hakimi totaled 484 points, ranking 6th out of 30 players, while the forecasts placed him in the top 3.
France Football and L’Équipe have drawn up this list of 30 players based on their performance during the season. The Moroccan right-back of PSG scored 11 goals in over 50 matches played and won the Champions League with his club. To award the Ballon d’Or, each of the journalists from the top 100 countries in the FIFA ranking establishes his list of the 10 best players, awarding 15 points to the first, 12 to the second, 10 to the third, 8 to the fourth, 7 to the fifth, 5 to the sixth and in a decreasing manner until the last one who will have 1 point. The winner is determined after the sum of the different votes.
In the end, only three voters placed Hakimi at the top of their list. These are the representatives of Morocco, Belgium and Gabon. The Atlas Lion accumulated 484 points, a score insufficient to reach the podium. The Moroccan defender was named player of the year by the Moroccan journalist Mostafa Badri (Almountakab), ahead of Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé. The Moroccan international was also named second by the representatives of 11 countries, including Bahrain, Côte d’Ivoire, Japan or Qatar, and named third by 9 countries, including France, Cameroon, Senegal and Tunisia.
