Gucci Pulls Controversial Sweater Amid Blackface Accusations

The turtleneck sweater with a red mouth will have only earned Gucci criticism and accusations of racism.
Following the sale of the fully black turtleneck sweater with a large red mouth, Gucci is accused of spreading racist stereotypes. Many internet users had referred to "blackface", which they consider to be a caricatured and racist representation of black people.
The Italian brand had to apologize and immediately removed the product from sale in all stores, as well as from its online site.
The Kering group brand even published a statement on its Twitter account: "Gucci deeply apologizes for the offense caused" by this sweater. "We confirm that the product has been immediately removed from all our stores and our online site."
It should be noted that this is not the first accusation of a racist nature in the fashion industry. In 2018, another Italian brand, Prada, also had to withdraw small black figures with red lips.
