Google Reveals Top Searches in Morocco: Sports Dominate 2024 Trends

The Google search engine has revealed the most popular search queries by Moroccans this year. They reveal some surprises.
The most popular searches made by Moroccans on Google in 2024 are about sports, football and athletics. It is sports that have most interested Moroccans this year. Moroccans were interested in sports personalities. Among them, Zinedine Zidane, former coach of Real Madrid and French football legend, who aroused the interest of Moroccans after refusing a very lucrative contract to commit to the Algerian national team. There are also the rising stars of football Brahim Diaz and Lamine Yamal, as well as the football icons Neymar and Sofiane Rahimi.
Moroccans also showed interest in Sofiane El Bakkali, a Moroccan athlete who became Olympic champion in the 3,000m steeplechase for the second time at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Two women are notably in the top 10. They are the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who won gold at the Paris Olympics and became a subject of controversy due to questions surrounding her biological sex, and Princess Lalla Salma.
Sports events have also interested Moroccans. The most popular Google searches concern the European Championship, the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) and the Paris Olympics. Not to mention the Africa Cup of Nations, the Olympics, the Morocco-Congo match, the Copa América, the Morocco-Tanzania match, the Morocco-Central Africa match, the Morocco-Argentina match, Morocco-Spain or the clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Globally, the most popular Google searches in 2024 are about sports. The Copa America tops the top 10. It is followed by the UEFA European Championship and the ICC World Twenty20, an international cricket competition.
