Moroccan Activists Call for Overhaul of Olympic Sports Leadership After Medal Drought

Moroccan activists have launched on social media a campaign to demand the dismissal of the presidents of sports federations who did not win any medals at the Paris Olympic Games.
The activists call for the removal from their positions of these federation presidents, whom they hold responsible for the disappointing performance of Moroccan athletes at the Paris Olympic Games.
The activists have published on social media the photos of the presidents of the sports federations concerned, whom they accuse of poor management. On X, one of the activists described these officials as "dinosaurs", criticizing their longevity in their positions. "Leave your places to a highly patriotic and competent youth to build a new glory for Morocco. We are tired of your faces and your repeated and shameful failures," he added.
Another wrote that Morocco’s record at the Paris Olympics was negative, inviting athletes from other sports disciplines to be inspired by the performance of the Atlas Lions. "If we have competed strongly with Spain and France in football, why don’t we compete with them in other sports?"
For the moment, these officials have not yet resigned or been removed from their positions, noted an Internet user, stressing that before the end of the campaign, "a few technical directors will be sacrificed, and the same rentier cycle will continue as in other areas." Morocco finished the Paris Olympics with two medals, including the bronze won by the Olympic football team and the gold won by the athlete Soufiane El Bakkali in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
