Global Halal Boom: Google Trends Reveal Surge in Interest Beyond Muslim Countries

Halal is seeing its appeal increase on Google to the point of crossing religious boundaries.
The halal interest goes beyond religious boundaries. According to Google Trends data for the period from August 2020 to August 2025, the term halal is expanding and globalizing. In Muslim-majority countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan, it represents a significant share of searches related to food and investment. However, the results from non-Muslim countries are surprising. France recorded 44% interest in halal and Belgium 30%.
The figures from some Central Asian countries are even more striking: 65% interest in halal searches in Kyrgyzstan, 54% in Kazakhstan and 50% in Uzbekistan. Halal is thus becoming more and more integrated into the cultural identity of the region. It is not just about what is consumed, but also about how values are expressed in public life. "The halal culture, in this sense, goes beyond food laws, it implies an awareness of ethical norms and trust in consumption," comments Tekedia.
