Global Chip Shortage Slows Renault’s Vehicle Production in Morocco

The severe global shortage of electronic components is behind the slowdown in vehicle production at the Renault group in Tangier and Meloussa. Production is expected to resume in the 2nd half of the year.
Industry experts expect a likely recovery in the 2nd half of the year after a production delay of some 672,000 cars in the first half of 2021, particularly in China and Europe. They hope that by that date, the supply of electronic chips will have returned to normal.
According to La Map, these electronic parts are also essential for several sectors of electronics, namely 5G phones and computers, whose demand is exploding with the coronavirus epidemic. Like the Renault group, several other manufacturers have reduced or suspended their production in the United States, France and Germany.
For a sales manager of a major brand who requested anonymity, this shortage of electronic components will (undoubtedly) have a more serious impact on our vehicle stocks in the long run. "This will have the effect of penalizing our customers, but also our sales volume if this crisis situation were to last longer than expected," he added.
