Genk Defender El Ouahdi Commits to Morocco National Team Over Belgium

The Zakaria El Ouahdi saga is definitively closed. Courted by Belgium, the right-back of Genk has confirmed his choice to defend the colors of Morocco.
Domenico Tedesco, coach of the Red Devils, had publicly expressed his interest in the 23-year-old player. "We are examining the option," he had declared at the beginning of November, fueling the rumors of a possible change of sporting nationality for El Ouahdi.
This statement had provoked strong reactions in Morocco, where some supporters did not hesitate to express their discontent on social networks. Indeed, the player has only been called up once to the Moroccan national team, without playing a single minute, and has not been recalled since.
Faced with the growing controversy, the native of Antwerp, of Moroccan origin, wanted to clarify his position. "I am Moroccan and I will remain Moroccan," he affirmed in a statement relayed by Soccer212. "We still have to work to come to the selection. It is Allah who decides."
