Gendarmerie Scandal: Alleged Cover-Up of Farmer's Murder Shakes Moroccan Region

An earthquake has just hit the brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie of Talmest, in the Essaouira region. There is talk of non-denunciation of the perpetrators of a murder.

The regional commander of the Royal Gendarmerie of Essaouira would have, according to Assabah, received a sound recording where an element of the brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie of Talmest denounces the perpetrators of a murder when, officially, the investigation is stalling. The brigade chief himself would be implicated.

It would be the murder of a farmer, attacked by a gang near his home, in the douar of Al Mirt, under the caïdat of Regraga. The man succumbed to his injuries after 20 days in the intensive care unit of a private clinic in Marrakech where he was taken. This happened in January 2018.

The family members, seeing the slowness of the investigation and the total vagueness surrounding it (even though fingerprints were taken at the crime scene), began to suspect that all this was intentional. According to Assabah, they even accused the president of the commune of being involved in it.

And that’s where the sound recording, which reached the Royal Gendarmerie of Essaouira as well as the victim’s family members, comes in. A gendarme from the brigade is heard accusing the "adjutant" and swearing on his honor that the killers of the farmer are well known, while citing their names.
