Moroccan Navy Intercepts Suspected Drug Boat in Mediterranean Chase

An anti-drug operation was carried out on Monday by agents of the Royal Moroccan Navy in the Mediterranean to try to intercept a boat suspected of drug trafficking.
Very few details have been provided by the authorities but according to a military source quoted by the MAP, a coast guard vessel supported by a Royal Navy helicopter chased a cormoran northeast of Ras Kebdana, near Nador, following suspicions of drug trafficking.
The boat was boarded and the pilot, whose nationality has not been revealed, was arrested and then handed over to the maritime brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie of Nador for standard procedures, the same source said.
Last September, a unit of the Royal Navy had opened fire on a go-fast that had refused to comply, killing the young Hayat, and three others were injured. Significant demonstrations had taken place all over Morocco to denounce the reaction deemed excessive by the Royal Navy.
