French Travel Industry Urges Morocco to Reopen Borders for Summer Tourism

In a letter dated June 17 addressed to the Minister of Tourism and Air Transport, Jean-Pierre Mas and René-Marc Chikli, respectively President of the Travel Companies (EDV) and President of the Union of Tour Operator Companies (SETO), ask Nadia Fettah to support their request for the reopening of Moroccan borders "before the peak summer period".

"We respectfully ask you to support our request for the reopening of the borders of the Kingdom of Morocco before the peak summer period," they wrote to the minister, assuring that "the health protocols will very effectively contribute to securing travel."

Similarly, "travel professionals, airlines and shipping companies are fully motivated to respect and ensure compliance with all health rules that will be associated with the opening of borders and tourist reception in the Kingdom of Morocco," they said.

The two presidents of French travel agencies explained that the calendar for the opening of borders is a prerequisite for booking trips, for the effective relaunch of the activity, recalling that the health crisis has heavily impacted their sector.

"The schedule is tight, the emergencies are major. We want to give families in our two countries the opportunity to reunite, tourists to travel and give oxygen to our economic players and income to our employees while guaranteeing health safety," added Jean-Pierre Mas and René-Marc Chikli.
