French Schools in Morocco Await Decision on Start Date Amid Earthquake Recovery

The announcement of the postponement of the school start from September 3 to September 10 made by the Ministry of National Education does not concern French schools. No decision has yet been made for their case, says the principal of the Lyautey high school in Casablanca.

Although "many information is circulating about the date and conditions of the start of the school year," for the moment, the teams of the French educational establishments "are working with the Moroccan authorities and the SCAC (The Service of Cooperation and Cultural Action), but no decision has been made," said the principal of Lyautey High School and Head of the Casablanca-Mohammedia Management Group, in an email sent to parents on August 24. Thus, the postponement of the start date announced on August 23 by the Minister of National Education and government spokesperson, Saaïd Amzazi, only concerns Moroccan schools.

To recall, the start of the school year has been postponed so that the ministry has time to put in place the necessary conditions and measures for a successful start, in compliance with the preventive measures against Covid, established by the competent authorities.
