French Police Officer Files Racism Complaint Against National Force

Haykal Rezgui Raouaji, a police officer stationed in Strasbourg for two years, is determined to file a complaint against the national police for racism. Since he took up his post there, he has constantly been the target of multiple racist remarks and acts from his colleagues.

"During the presentation week, I hear: Rezgui Raouaji, a very French name from here. It was always little jokes; when I arrived, they spoke Alsatian; we make you feel that you are not part of the group," the agent tells France Bleu.

These remarks eventually cost this police officer, who has sixteen years of service behind him, with high achievements that earned him the recognition of the Republic in 2016, a depression. "I was at the bottom of the pit, I lost close to 15 kg and no one called me, no one supported me..." he complains.

Exasperated, he seized the competent services in October 2019. Without follow-up. Just like his request for a transfer, on the grounds of insufficient evidence to speak of racism. It was the refusal or indifference too many.

He decides to file a complaint for racism, discrimination and moral harassment against the national police.

His lawyer believes that the legal battle will be stormy: "We are attacking the police institution, it happens very rarely, I already feel it, the way I am welcomed at the central police station, it is unpleasant," says Maître Kaoutar Choukour, his lawyer, to France Bleu.
