French Police Destroy $22 Million Worth of Moroccan Cannabis in Major Drug Bust

Some 3.3 tons of cannabis originating from Morocco were destroyed last Wednesday in Lunel-Viel, in the Montpellier region, under heavy police protection.

Quoted by the regional newspaper Midi Libre, the Montpellier public prosecutor, Christophe Barret, explains that this is the result of several months of investigations carried out by the police officers of the Regional Judicial Police Service of Montpellier. "There were nearly three tons of cannabis resin - including the 1.3 tons seized recently -, 230 kg of cannabis herb and more than 60 kg of cocaine," he said.

The entire destroyed merchandise, worth 22 million euros, was destined for the "market in the Montpellier region," notes for his part Commissioner Guillaume Barbagli, according to whom this drug seized in recent months was either stored in boxes, or in warehouses or directly at individuals’ homes.

To be delivered in the region, the drug arrives directly from Morocco or Spain by trucks or via a go-fast convoy. The latter generally consists of three powerful vehicles. A "scout" car is responsible for signaling police, customs and gendarmerie checkpoints to the "carrier" car, which can carry up to 800 kg of drugs, and another car at the rear.
