French PM Meets Muslim Leaders to Discuss Reforms and Imam Training

French Prime Minister Jean Castex received a delegation from the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM). The two parties reviewed the concerns and expectations of Muslims in France.

The delegation of the French Council of the Muslim Faith, composed of its president and two vice-presidents, exchanged with the head of the French government, presenting the main avenues of reforms on its territorial organization with the creation of departmental councils of Muslim worship (CDCM), the training of imams and chaplains and their status.

This concern was the subject of an in-depth discussion on the means to be put in place so that the CDCMs are able to meet the great expectations of Muslims in France in their spiritual life and in the fight against extremist ideologies. The difficulties that some Muslims encounter in burying their deceased relatives due to the lack of Muslim sections in certain municipalities were also discussed. Thus, the CFCM pleaded for a regulatory change allowing the management associations of places of worship to manage them in a regulatory manner. The issue of the fight against radicalism claiming to be from Islam, which has been the subject of many parliamentary missions and commissions, was also addressed during this meeting.
