French Muslim Council Proposes Unified Imam Training to Combat Radicalization

The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) wants to develop a common training program for imams and a plan to fight radicalism. The initiative comes a week after the attack carried out against teacher Samuel Paty in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.
In a press release, the CFCM office stated that it intends to play its part in the rebuilding of the Muslim faith by fully assuming its "cultural and social" responsibilities.
To succeed in this challenge, a commission will be set up with the main mission of harmonizing the proposed curricula in order to help future imams respond to the expectations and challenges of Islam in France. It will be composed of the heads of training centers. The first meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2020.
In addition to this training for imams, the office proposes to convene the commission for the prevention of radicalism on Sunday, November 1, 2020.
The objective is to develop a plan to fight against all forms of radicalism and extremism. It aims to immunize the French youth against the propaganda of preachers of hatred and division.
