France Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions for Mosques and Places of Worship

Places of worship in France are facing new restrictive measures that will come into effect from Tuesday, November 3. The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) has informed all Muslim leaders (CRCM, Muslim federations and mosque managers) of this new decision.
In accordance with the decree of October 29, 2020, chapter 6, articles 47 and 56, places of worship are authorized to remain open, but with the exception of funeral ceremonies, which can only be attended by 30 people, any gathering within these places of worship is strictly prohibited. Wearing a mask is mandatory for everyone, starting from the age of 11.
In its press release, the CFCM indicated that compliance with the physical distance of one meter between the faithful and the observance of barrier gestures must be constantly verified by the manager of the place of worship. Instead of in-person prayers, the leaders and religious leaders can record and broadcast content from the mosque.
The CFCM calls on the leaders to scrupulously respect these provisions, under penalty of seeing their place of worship closed until further notice, specifies the same source.
