French Foreign Minister Visits Morocco to Mend Ties Ahead of Macron Trip

Announced a few days ago, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, arrived in Rabat on Thursday evening. This is her first official visit to Morocco since her appointment.
Catherine Colonna is in Morocco to prepare, with the Moroccan authorities, the upcoming visit of French President Emmanuel Macron. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will have to address certain issues that have made the relationship between the two countries difficult. This is the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity, on which King Mohammed VI had called for a clear position from France.
There is also the issue of Schengen visas, the number of which granted to Moroccans has been reduced by half. For Paris, this is a measure in response to Morocco’s refusal to receive its illegal nationals. During her visit, the French Foreign Minister will meet with several officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita.
