French Foreign Minister Visits Morocco to Prepare for Macron’s Upcoming Trip

In preparation for the upcoming visit of Emmanuel Macron to Morocco, Catherine Colona, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is expected in Rabat to prepare this official visit of the French president.
Postponed several times due to the tense situation between Morocco and France, Emmanuel Macron’s visit should finally take place at the beginning of next year. Catherine Colona is expected in Rabat from December 15 to 16 for the final arrangements of this state visit during which various important issues will be addressed.
Diplomatic relations between Rabat and Paris have been disrupted by France’s vague position on the Moroccanness of the Sahara, the halving of visas granted to Moroccans, Morocco’s refusal to settle the situation of its nationals in an irregular situation, the hasty departure of ambassadors Hélène Le Gal from Rabat, Mohamed Benchaâboun from Paris.
But in recent weeks, the two countries have sent some signals of a return to calm. Paris has appointed a new ambassador, Christophe Lecourtier, who is awaiting Rabat’s approval to take up his post.
