France Appoints Economist Christophe Lecourtier as New Ambassador to Morocco

Two months after the departure of Hélène Le Gal, the new French ambassador has been appointed. It is Christophe Lecourtier who will take up his duties after approval by Rabat.
The new French ambassador to Morocco was supposed to hold the position of president of Business France until 2025, according to Africa Intelligence. Christophe Lecourtier is thus replacing Hélène Le Gal, who left her post last September as she was called to other missions.
The new ambassador is a diplomat but also an economist. His appointment could warm up relations between Paris and Rabat and relaunch economic cooperation and investments, in the field of technology and renewable energies.
Before Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier had been the French ambassador to Australia. Between 2014 and 2017, he had headed the office of Christine Lagarde, then Finance Minister.
