French and Spanish Giants Compete for $200 Million Casablanca Tramway Contract

Casa-Transports will unveil the name of the supplier of the future lines 3 and 4 of the Casablanca tramway in a few days. This is a major contract estimated at 2 billion DH.
Two bidders have been shortlisted by the SDL Casa-Transports. These are, according to l’Économiste, the French group Alstom and the Spanish group CAF, whose offers are currently being studied by the transport company. A total of 88 trainsets will be supplied for the lines by the chosen provider. But the daily thinks that the French group Alstom has all its chances with "an offer of 1.8 billion DH excluding tax against 1.9 billion for its Spanish competitor".
According to him, Alstom is already familiar with having equipped lines 1 and 2 with its Citadis range. In addition, it offers "the latest generation of the range at very competitive prices", and already has an industrial base in Morocco. For the moment, the project of lines 3 and 4 is in the preparatory phase. That of the construction of the rail platform will be done soon.
The commissioning is scheduled for 2022. The overall cost of the project is estimated at 7 billion DH, financed by the Support Fund for Urban and Interurban Transport Reforms (FART), and the Urban Commune of Casablanca and the Casa-Settat Region, specifies the same source.
