Alstom Wins $142 Million Contract for 66 New Trams in Casablanca

Casa Transports has awarded Alstom a new 130 million euro contract for the supply of 66 Citadis X05 tramways with an option for 22 additional tramways for the future lines 3 and 4.
The opening of these lines is announced for the end of 2023, we are informed. The trains will be assembled this time in Barcelona. Alstom will be accompanied in this project by several local suppliers in Morocco. If the Alstom plant in Fez is selected to deliver the electrical cabinets and cable harnesses, the French sites, namely La Rochelle, will be responsible for project management and engineering activities.
As for Valenciennes, it will provide the interior fittings. Ornans will take care of the motors. Villeurbanne will supply the on-board electronic equipment, while Aix-en-Provence is selected for the speed measurement system and the legal recorder. As for Tarbes, it will have to provide the power modules and circuit breaker boxes, and Saint-Ouen for the design.
Casa-Transport has decided to open new lines to meet the growing demand for mobility following the increase in the number of passengers. In November 2020, more than 220,000 passengers used these lines.
These new Citadis tramways, 64 meters long, can carry up to 630 passengers each. Thanks to its 12 side doors and new information systems, they provide unprecedented comfort to passengers. For Noureddine Rhalmi, President of Alstom Transport Morocco, many passengers will be able to "travel with complete serenity".
