Alstom Expands in Morocco: New $4.8 Million Manufacturing Facility Opens in Fez

Alstom’s new site in Fez was inaugurated on Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy.

The project, with a total cost of 48 million dirhams, covers an area of 3.4 hectares. It is intended for the manufacture and assembly of electrical cables and cabinets. The minister visited the site with the Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, Governor of the Prefecture of Fez, Saïd Zniber, the President of the Fez-Meknes region, Mohand Laenser and the Mayor of Fez, Idriss Al Azami Idrissi.

The increase in Alstom’s production capacity will lead to the creation of new jobs, while offering local skills the opportunity to assert themselves and contribute to the development of the region, said Mr. Elalamy on this occasion. This industrial project currently employs nearly 400 people. It plans to create 350 other direct jobs by 2023, Alstom said.

The President of Alstom Transport Morocco, Noureddine Rhalmi, stressed that the new Fez site is a "proof of Alstom’s industrial expansion in Morocco." He also specified that its "contemporary design, projected towards the future, will allow the city to be inscribed in a new positive memory, for a future that we already know is promising."

Alstom has been present in Morocco for a century. It has contributed to more than 20 rail projects worldwide. Among the projects carried out are the delivery of Citadis tramways to Rabat and Casablanca, 12 Avelia Euroduplex trains for the high-speed line that will connect Tangier to Casablanca and 50 Prima locomotives. In the future, Alstom is committed to "increasing the pool of local talent and engaging more, as well as supporting the socio-economic development of the region," says La Map.
