Luxury Villa Heist: Soccer Star Ribéry’s Moroccan Getaway Turns Nightmare
While staying in a luxury villa in Marrakech with several people for private vacation, Franck Ribéry was the victim of a spectacular theft. A theft quickly solved by the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of the territorial center of Sidi Abdellah Ghiat, under the Tahnaout company within the regional command of Marrakech, who managed to arrest the perpetrator.
Valuable jewelry belonging to the six women, as well as significant sums in euros, for a total estimated value of around 800,000 dirhams were stolen from a villa located in the tourist area between Sidi Abdellah Ghiat and Tassoultante. Ten people of different nationalities, including six women, as well as the French footballer Franck Ribéry, former player of Bayern Munich and the French national team, were staying there for a private visit. They had arrived in Marrakech to spend a few vacation days.
Following the theft, an investigation was conducted by the Tahanaout gendarmerie, which proved fruitful. The investigators found footprints around the villa’s garden, traces that led to the interior of the residence. Analysis of these footprints allowed them to discover that they were the size of the villa’s guard’s shoes. Based on these suspicions, they continued the investigation and managed to locate part of the loot hidden in a tree.
After thorough scientific and field research, the gendarmes were able to locate and arrest the perpetrator of the theft in record time. During his interrogation, he confessed. The 34-year-old man told the investigators that he had taken advantage of the absence of his employers to enter the villa and commit his crime. During the searches at his home, the gendarmes seized the rest of the stolen items.
The suspect was placed in custody pending his appearance before the courts to answer the charges of aggravated theft and breach of trust. The investigators are continuing the investigation to complete all the details related to the case and to verify the possible involvement of other people in this theft.
