The Franco-Moroccan rapper Maes involved in a kidnapping and torture project in Marrakech

The criminal chamber of first instance in Tangier claims that the Franco-Moroccan rapper Maes, arrested on January 22, 2025 in Morocco, where he had taken refuge after fleeing Dubai, is involved in a case of incitement to murder a man in Marrakech, alongside nine other defendants.

A communication from Maes with the leader of a gang, the owner of a shisha café in Fez, is the origin of the revelations. In this communication, the rapper would have tasked him with developing a plan to kidnap and torture a person in Marrakech, pending his arrival in Morocco, following a personal dispute that had arisen between them in France. Revelations that were apparently confirmed during the hearing of Walid Georgey, alias Maes. The rapper indeed acknowledged having had a dispute with the alleged victim. According to him, the latter was claiming a share of the proceeds from the music evenings he organized in several countries. Subsequently, the conflict then moved to Morocco.

Maes will be arrested at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, upon his arrival on a private jet from Dubai. He was planning to take refuge in Morocco after fleeing Dubai. But an international arrest warrant had been issued against him in October 2023 by the French justice system. He was wanted for his absence from a trial where he was accused of group violence. These facts date back to 2018. In June 2024, he had been convicted in absentia to ten months in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros. But the young artist, originally from Sevran, had chosen exile in Dubai, citing threats to his person.

The nine other defendants - including private security guards (bouncers) - involved in the case of incitement to murder a man in Marrakech are also in the hands of the Moroccan justice system. Six of them are currently incarcerated in the Tangier 2 prison, while the other three are being prosecuted on provisional release. Serious charges weigh on them: constitution of a criminal organization, attempted premeditated murder, kidnapping and sequestration, intentional violence with a weapon, illegal possession of weapons, international drug trafficking and unauthorized export, etc.

This criminal gang had gathered in a café in Tangier to plan the kidnapping before going to Marrakech for three days. While they managed to intercept the victim as soon as he got out of his luxury car and were about to flee with him, the perpetrators were slowed down by the police. They quickly intervened to foil the operation and arrest the aggressors.

The discovery, on a phone, of photos of large quantities of hashish and firearms, as well as conversations proving an attempt to purchase a pistol and an assault rifle, and a photo of a wanted notice issued by the General Directorate of National Security, captured from the screen of an administrative office, led to the arrest of one of the main suspects, the owner of the shisha café. This man owns several properties, including a luxury villa, cars and motorcycles, one of which was bought for a member of the gang, the investigation by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) reveals.
