France to Repatriate 35,000 Ancient Artifacts to Morocco After Customs Seizure

35,000 ethnographic pieces consisting of stone tools and organic remains, illegally removed from Morocco and seized by French customs, are about to return home. The Ministry of Culture and Communication is finalizing the procedures to recover them.
This announced recovery is in line with the Kingdom’s commitments regarding the implementation of the UNESCO Convention on the Prohibition and Prevention of the Importation, Exportation and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, as well as within the framework of Franco-Moroccan cooperation in the relevant fields.
These goods have an invaluable scientific value. They will be recovered in the coming weeks, as soon as the administrative and technical procedures are completed.
The Ministry of Culture, as the guarantor of the preservation of the national heritage against looting and trafficking, has started these recovery procedures in accordance with national legislation and international conventions prohibiting the illicit traffic and looting of cultural property.
