Four Young Adults Killed in High-Speed Crash Near Belgian Border

A tragic road accident has saddened Mouscron on Sunday evening. Four young people, including two of Moroccan origin, around twenty years old, lost their lives in a horrific road departure. Their rental vehicle, a Range Rover, hit two trees at an estimated speed of over 160 km/h.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on the RN58, heading towards Dottignies. Surveillance camera images confirmed the driver’s loss of control at the exit of a tunnel. The five occupants found themselves trapped in the burning cabin. Only one of them survived, seriously injured.
The investigation conducted by the Mouscron police quickly highlighted excessive speed as the main cause of the accident. An automotive expert will have to confirm the data, but the initial elements suggest a speed of around 200 km/h.
A video circulating on social networks shows the young victims a few hours before the tragedy, proudly posing next to the Range Rover. The police confirmed the authenticity of these images, but could not formally establish whether the people present in the video were on board the vehicle at the time of the accident.
"This type of situation is unfortunately becoming more and more frequent," laments Magali Delannoy, spokesperson for the local police. "Young people rent powerful cars for festive events, as was the case here for a wedding."
The families and loved ones of the victims were taken care of by the emergency services and local authorities. The Mons-Tournai public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
The bodies of the two brothers, Salah Edinne and Nouredinne, will be repatriated to Morocco, while Matis, converted to Islam, should be buried in the Muslim section of Comines or Armentières (France).
