Energy Giant TotalEnergies Outsources to Morocco, Jeopardizing 163 Belgian Jobs

TotalEnergies, a client of IKANBI Belgium for seven years, has announced its decision not to renew its contract with the Liège call center, following an international tender. As of January 1, 2026, French-language calls will be handled by telephone operators from Morocco. A measure that risks putting 163 IKANBI employees out of work.
With the withdrawal of TotalEnergies, the layoffs are "inevitable," regrets Daniel Coene, the boss of IKANBI, without giving any details on the number of employees who could be affected by this decision. "About a hundred temporary workers will be the first affected," estimates Patrick Masson, a permanent Setca member. "It’s really a financial logic. Customers prefer poor quality, but a low cost," explains the union representative to RTBF.
"TotalEnergies has made billions during the energy crisis. And they’re throwing us away for tiny savings. Our telephone operators understand the Belgian reality and really support the customers. In Morocco, it will be a low-cost service," asserts the delegate Mehdi Bouacida.
"We will examine the skills of each person to propose reclassifications on other projects, but we will not be able to guarantee the employment of all," warns the boss of IKANBI.
