Former Soccer Prodigy Hachim Mastour Vanishes, Greek Club Files Legal Action

Thursday 21 February 2019, by Said

The young Moroccan international Hachim Mastour has been missing for several days and has not returned to his club at the end of the winter break. This prolonged absence is seriously worrying and the Greek club where he plays has just taken legal action.

Under contract until 2021 with PAS Lamia, the player has played little since the start of the season, only four matches played for a player whose future was thought to be promising. This more than doubtful disappearance is now worrying and FIFA could take up the case. "The Moroccan international Hachim Mastour has disappeared from the radar. Recruited by the Greek club of PAS Lamia during the summer transfer window, the ’former’ hope of Moroccan football has not returned to the ranks of his club since the winter break. The club plans to drag him to court," we read on Twitter.

Far away is the time when the young Moroccan shone within his training club, AC Milan. Since 2015, and his wish to wear the colors of Morocco instead of Italy, the country where he was born, he seems to have been sidelined by the Italian club who blame him for having chosen the Atlas Lions. Recruited by Malaga where he did not shine at all before doing a trial in the Netherlands, Mastour was back at AC Milan before leaving for Greece where he still struggles to assert himself.

Now 20 years old, the former rising star of Moroccan football will probably have a hard time returning to his 2014 level when brands were fighting over him, like Nike, who had made him one of its faces with another young man, Neymar. Diametrically opposed destinies today. But who knows?
