Former Rapper Diam’s Shares Rare Photos of Islamic Conversion, Sparks Online Debate

Through these publications, Diam’s looks back on her conversion to Islam. "On December 26, 2008, I flew off on an exceptional journey during which I was going to live the most beautiful days of my life," she writes. In one of the photos, we see the beach of Mauritius presenting a picturesque and paradisiacal aspect. "It is exactly on this beach that I converted to Islam 11 years ago now," recounts the former French rapper.

"It is with this view, from my room, that I began reading the Holy Quran which has transformed my life, remembers the interpreter of My Suffering. At night, I read, alone, on the beach, lit by the moon. Sometimes I didn’t even go back to my room. I needed to feel close to creation, the faith in the one God was gaining my heart. I was going to convert to Islam, I felt it deep within me."

"I remember standing in the middle of the beach. I raised my head to the sky and took Allah as a witness. After that, I felt Muslim; I was Muslim," adds Mélanie Georgiades.

She also specifies that some of these excerpts are taken from "Diam’s, autobiography", published in 2012. A book that traces her conversion to Islam.
