Former Moroccan Star Ouaddou Weighs In on Mahrez Controversy Amid Morocco-Algeria Tensions

The day after the controversy sparked by Riyad Mahrez’s discourteous remarks about Moroccans, the former Moroccan international, Abdeslam Ouaddou, adds his two cents on Moroccan-Algerian relations.
The former Moroccan player, for having taken the defense of the Algerian star, Riyad Mahrez, had been reproached for his "collision with the Algerians" (sic). According to his detractors, this proximity to Algeria would justify the fact that he takes a stand in favor of Mahrez.
In a clarification, Ouaddou, who is making his debut in coaching in Algeria, recalled having sent a letter to the national technical director (DTN), the Welshman Osian Roberts. According to him, the DTN did not deign to reply to him. Since his request was therefore considered rejected, he turned to Algeria, which welcomed him with open arms thanks to his friend Jamal Belmadi, coach of the Algerian national team. For Ouaddou, Belmadi did not hesitate for a single moment to respond to his call and welcomed him with open arms.
Annoyed by the behavior of the Moroccan football authorities and the criticism directed at him, Ouaddou violently attacked his detractors on his Twitter account: "Please, I am a man of peace, a humanist. I love my country. So stop your ignominies in private messages. Don’t make me the person I’m not and don’t want to become. A hater! The question is: what consideration do you have for the Moroccan technician in his own country? Thank you to Algeria".
