Former Moroccan Minister Mohamed El Ouafa Dies of COVID-19 at 72

Former minister Mohamed El Ouafa died this Sunday, December 27 from complications of Covid-19. He was 72 years old.
The death occurred at the Cheikh Zayed Hospital in Rabat due to health complications related to Covid-19, the family of the deceased specifies.
Born in 1948 in Ouazguita in the Al Haouz province, Mohamed El Ouafa holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University Mohammed V in Rabat, a postgraduate diploma (DES) in economics from the Faculty of Law in Paris and a 3rd cycle diploma from the Institute of Economic and Social Development Studies (IEDES) of the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
The politician was a former member of the executive committee of the Istiqlal Party. He served Morocco in various positions of responsibility. He was Morocco’s ambassador to India and Nepal (2000-2004), to Iran and Tajikistan (2006-2009) and then to Brazil, Paraguay and Suriname (2009-2011). Mohamed El Ouafa was also appointed Minister of National Education, Deputy Minister to the Head of Government, in charge of General Affairs in the governments of Abdelilah Benkirane, and elected mayor of Marrakech between 1983 and 1992.
