Former Moroccan PM Benkirane Recovering After Surgery in France, Breaks Silence on Facebook

Absent from the political scene since the September 8 election, the former Head of Government and former number 1 of the PJD, Abdelilah Benkirane, breaks his silence on his Facebook account. He explained that he had undergone a surgical operation in France and is currently out of danger.

"I’m fine," reassured Abdelilah Benkirane, who was suffering from an illness that required surgery. According to his relatives, the former Head of Government underwent this operation in Paris. "The operation I underwent today, Thursday, was a success, thank God. I am recovering, according to what the medical team that supervised the operation told me," wrote the former number 1 of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in a message posted on Facebook on October 7.

In the same message, he thanked those who had sought to know the reasons for his disappearance from the political scene. He then apologized for the unanswered messages and calls.

But the former Prime Minister probably did not expect the very critical comments following his hospitalization abroad. "If you had fulfilled your mission when you were at the head of the government, you would not have to travel to Paris to have an operation," wrote an irritated Moroccan Internet user.

"It is unacceptable that you are a former head of government and you travel to France to receive care [...] ten years in charge of the government and we do not have any hospital capable of providing you with the necessary care," indignantly denounces another.
