Former Miss Universe Sparks Controversy with Mosque Photo in Morocco

Former Miss France 2016, Iris Mittenaere, who also won the Miss Universe title that same year, was heavily criticized on social media for posing with bare arms in front of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.
As reported by the celebrity site LeGossip.net, "the former Miss Universe indeed took to her Instagram feed to unveil a photo in which she is seen with bare arms in a mosque. And this did not fail to be reproached by some very agitated detractors on social media. But nothing confirms that the photo in question was taken in a prayer room."
"The beautiful brunette could have posed in an ’adjoining room’ open to the public and in which no dress code would be imposed," the site also writes.
A similar controversy had occurred a few years ago when the 20 finalists of Miss Belgium (2013) had taken photos on the esplanade of the same mosque, provoking the indignation of many Moroccans who had accused them of desecrating a place of worship with "their light attire." The photo shoot had been authorized by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center, and following this, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs did not wish to react to this controversy.
