Former Algerian Official Amar Saadani Lives Quietly in Morocco, Evading Justice

Amar Saâdani, former secretary general of the FLN, also president of the People’s National Assembly (APN), is leading a simple and peaceful life in Morocco where he has taken refuge to escape the justice of his country, Algeria.
In Morocco, Amar Saadani, 71, "lives under high protection of the Moroccan security services, away from the spotlight," reports Jeune Afrique. "He does not wish to be publicized and send signals that could be perceived as a provocation by the Algerians," confides a Moroccan source. The former secretary general of the FLN (August 2013-October 2016) has chosen to remain discreet.
Since 2018, Amar Saâdani has been in the sights of the Algerian justice system, as reported by the newspaper Le Soir d’Algérie. He had been summoned before the Chéraga court twice in a row for land embezzlement cases without appearing. The following year, he had settled in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, where he owns several apartments. He would be worried by the tax authorities, and had therefore chosen to fly to Portugal where he owns another apartment.
From Portugal, the former president of the APN learns of the arrest of the former CEO of Sonatrach, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour in the United Arab Emirates and loses his serenity. Fearing a probable extradition to Algeria, he decides to take refuge in Morocco after receiving proposals from people close to the Moroccan authorities. They would have benefited from the services of the former senior Algerian official.
