Fnideq Protesters Released: Court Issues Suspended Sentences Amid Border Closure Tensions

The four young people arrested as part of the February 5 demonstrations in Fnideq were sentenced to six months in prison with a suspended sentence. On the prosecutor’s orders, they were released on Tuesday, February 16.
Yassine Razine, Reda Al-Aafiqi, Noureddine Al-Hichu and Mohamed Makdar have regained their freedom. The local authorities would have started to list the people affected by the closure of the borders between Fnideq and the occupied city of Ceuta. According to civil society, they could soon benefit from monthly financial support from the Delegation of National Solidarity.
For Mohamed Abgar, lawyer and member of the citizen movement For The City of Fnideq, these financial aids should concern the people who worked in the city of Ceuta.
Last Friday, February 5, the residents of this border town organized an "unauthorized" sit-in to express their frustration after 11 months of closure of the Moroccan borders with Spain.
