Fire Destroys Temporary Mosque in Boissy, France; Community Seeks Answers

The Muslims of Boissy, a French commune located in the Val-de-Marne, have seen their place of worship go up in smoke. It is a temporary location of prefabricated buildings, used for gathering, for the past 20 years, which has been consumed.

The Muslims of Boissy will have to fight hard to complete the construction of their mosque. And for good reason, the fire that broke out on the evening of Monday, August 5, 2019, ravaged the 200 sq.m. prefabricated buildings used for the past twenty years to pray, reports Le parisien.

Ordinary or accidental fire? It all started with two gas cylinder explosions in the city, with the outbreak of a fire in the place of worship. The arrival of the firefighters made it possible to contain the fire without however saving the place of prayer, whose prefabricated buildings were destroyed by the fire. No human life is to be deplored. However, the initial investigations reveal that the fire would be accidental. "It would be due to an illegal connection in the prefabricated building divided into a ’Kitchen’ part and a ’Toilet’ part," suggests the same source.

For the mayor of the municipality, it has been almost 20 years that the faithful of Boissy have been gathering in this provisional place of worship belonging to the municipality. "We make these premises available as part of cultural activities," specifies the mayor (PS), Régis Charbonnier.

Pending the completion of the construction of the mosque, the 300 to 400 faithful who gather for prayer will be able to gather in a gymnasium in the city.
