Fez Market Fire: Firefighters Attacked While Battling Blaze, Authorities Report

An informal vegetable market, located in the city of Fez, suffered the ravages of a fire whose causes remain unknown. According to the local authorities of the Fez-Meknes region, the dexterity shown by the security services made it possible to contain the fire and limit the damage, both in human and material terms.
No loss of life was recorded, but the material damage is significant, according to the local authorities. In addition, several citizens, including minors, gathered around the market, with the sole purpose of preventing the security forces from properly carrying out their mission. Some threw stones, injuring a member of the public forces and an auxiliary of authority. They also caused material damage to two public force vehicles and set fire to a civil protection vehicle.
An investigation has been opened by the competent authorities to determine the causes of this fire, and especially to identify the vandals who attacked the security forces.
The investigations led to the arrest of an individual involved in these acts of vandalism. The search continues to identify the other presumed accomplices, in order to bring them to justice.
