Fez COVID-19 Cases Surge; Authorities Consider Neighborhood Quarantines

The epidemiological situation in the city of Fez is increasingly alarming due to the acceleration of new infections. Restrictive measures could be taken by the local authorities to prevent further cases.
The latest coronavirus report presented by the health authorities shows some 117 new infections in the spiritual city, recalls L’Économiste. As a result, the health authorities have dispatched a squad of caïds to strengthen the local system. Faced with the stubbornness of the population, the authorities could impose quarantine in certain neighborhoods of Fez such as Aïn Nokbi or Bendebbab.
According to the same daily, the situation is increasingly critical at the Covid-19 treatment centers with the contamination of "more than 70 people between doctors and nurses at the CHU". According to a doctor from the medical corps, this significant contamination is the price of multiple delays in decision-making. According to him, the majority of serious cases are due to a delay in care, by underestimation or fear of being hospitalized in Fez or Benslimane.
For the doctor, it is urgent to create, like Benslimane and Bengurir, field hospitals in each region, given the growing number of asymptomatic cases that are putting pressure on hospitals that are already in crisis and approaching collapse.
From reliable sources, a field hospital is being set up within the university campus on the Imouzzer road. This decision could reassure the citizen and relieve the hospital, we are told. In addition, the city should also think about confining its citizens again and imposing the wearing of masks to avoid a dramatic resurgence of positive cases.
